ZONE FESTIVALS - OVERVIEW

The province of British Columbia is divided into eighteen Drama Festival Zones. Ideally each Zone organizes their own zone drama festival and an adjudicator chooses an outstanding production to be the representative production which then may be invited to attend the Provincial Festival.  Only Zones which organize a Zone Festival may send a representative production to the Provincial Festival.

DETERMINING YOUR ELIGIBILITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SEARS-ABCDE BRITISH COLUMBIA DRAMA FESTIVAL

  • To be considered a viable Zone Festival, a minimum of four schools producing a show from the Zone must participate.
  • Zone Festivals should be held between November and March.
  • A Zone Festival Adjudicator will choose a production to be the "Representative Production" at the Provincial Festival.
  • A Zone Festival Adjudicator will also choose a production to be the "Alternate Representative Production" at the Provincial Festival.
  • Both the Representative Production and the Alternate Represent Production will be invited to participate in the Provincial Festival workshops and conference.
  • The Representative Production will be invited to perform their production as part of the Provincial Festival Celebration.
  • Should a chosen Representative Production withdraw from the Provincial Festival (due to illness, lack of funding, etc.), the Alternate Production will be invited to participate in the Provincial Festival.
  • Any production given permission to participate in the showcase shall be included in the adjudication process.
  • The final deadline for Zone Festivals to be completed and to report their results to the Festival Coordinator is FRIDAY, MARCH 12, 2010 in order to gather the information necessary for the Provincial Festival.
