SEARS British Columbia Drama Festival 2013

 

Awards & Criteria

 

All Performing Delegate Schools will be awarded a Production Excellence Award to celebrate their participation in the Provincial Festival.

The awards will be decided upon by a festival awards committee made up of the adjudicator and guests selected by the Festival Committee.  The awards will be sent out by mail after the festival concludes.

Not all awards must be awarded.
  If there are no outstanding candidates in a particular category then no award will be given for that category.

 

Some awards may be given to a number of different productions.

For example:   Two productions may have their leading actors selected for the Outstanding Acting in a Leading Role award.

 

There is no limit to the number of awards that a production may receive. 

Possible award categories include:

 

 

1.         Outstanding Acting in a Leading Role              (male, female)

            -demonstrates commitment, hard work, & talent

            -portrays the character believably, audibly, and with energy and passion

 

 

2.         Outstanding Acting in a Supporting Role       (male, female)

            -see above for criteria

 

 

3.         Outstanding Leader of a Cast

            -has initiative and charisma

            -has earned the respect of the cast through discipline/commitment to the work

            -inspirational

 

4.         Outstanding Technical

            -production is polished, well rehearsed

            -cues are well executed

            -production team is professional and can trouble shoot

            -production team practices backstage etiquette

            -lighting, sound, and special effects are creative and enhance or compliment the production.

            -Please consult with Ross Nichol, Tech Director at the Douglas College Theatre for info on potential recipients.

 

5.         Outstanding Production Design    

            (includes set, costumes, lighting, props etc.)

            -design supports and enhances the production

            -the craft or technique in Stagecraft design has been utilized

            -the design is functional

6.         Outstanding Original Script Production

            -playwright has demonstrated an understanding of the art of playwriting in terms of construction of the script           
             and characters

            -playwright’s message is clear in the production

           

 

7.         Outstanding Student Director

 -demonstrates through the work on stage, a clear understanding of the script which s/he has directed. 

            -demonstrates an understanding of blocking, focus, etc.

            -has put together a solid production where one can see that the actors have been well prepared for the 
             performance

 

 

8.         Outstanding Ensemble

 - a cast in which the focus is on the team, rather than on individuals

            -demonstrates the ability to work as a unit, supporting each other’s performance

           

 

9.         Outstanding Movement/Choreography

-demonstrates an understanding of movement/choreography

            -demonstrates an ability to create movement/choreography which is appropriate to the production

            -movement/choreography enhances or compliments the production

 

 

10.       Outstanding Stage Manager

-demonstrates the ability to be organized, prepared, and professional when working with cast, crew, and Arts
              Centre personnel  

            -knows how to “call” the show and does so with a sense of professionalism

            -has organized her/his crew to lay-in and strike the set in an organized manner

            -demonstrates the ability to be calm, decisive and comfortable with his/her role when in charge of the production

11.       Discretionary

-The Adjudication Panel may wish to award specific productions or the people involved in them with a special award that is not covered in the ones listed above.
